My birth name is Sara Firman. I am also known as Sulis (pronounced Soo-lis), especially in association with water.
This is the story of my journey from science to soul through water. My fascination with water began in earnest when I came to the US to train in a form of massage called Watsu® (aquatic bodywork). I soon realized that it was not the technique but water that was the true healer.
I have practiced aquatic bodywork in a five-star hotel spa, in my own private spa-retreat, in the millennium city spa in Bath, and wherever a warm pool was to be found. I also write about my experiences as manager/owner/practitioner working in spa-retreat settings on Vision Spa Retreat.
This site, launched in 2008, marks the 10-year anniversary of my initial training in Watsu in 1998. It is devoted to sharing information and insights about aquatic bodywork based on my own practice, now called Aquapoetics. It is just one part of the flourishing Watsu world that creator Harold Dull envisaged.
Everything you see here - all that I have to share and offer - comes out of my own life experience and practice. I've learned that, for me, whatever I do in the world must begin as a self-discovery process. This personal and self-reflective approach is something I hope to convey in all my interactions with others.
So, please feel free to dive into all that you find on this and my other two websites. Ask yourself what you feel and think about it, and give me as much constructive input and personal insight as you like. If you decide to try a service or product bring your whole self to it, and do give me feedback.
In the spirit of healing,
Sulis (Sara Firman) BSc. MPhil. LMT, Watsu Therapist
