My birth name is Sara Firman. I am also known as Sulis (pronounced Soo-lis), especially in association with water. My fascination with water began in earnest when I moved to the US to train in a healing practice called Watsu® (aquatic bodywork).
I have practiced aquatic bodywork in a five-star hotel spa, in my own private spa-retreat, in the millennium city spa in Bath, and wherever a warm pool was to be found. I also write about my experiences as manager/owner/practitioner working in spa-retreat settings on Vision Spa Retreat.
This site, launched in 2008 to mark the 10-year anniversary of my initial training in Watsu in 1998, is devoted to sharing information and insights about aquatic bodywork based on my own practice, Aquapoetics. It is just one part of the flourishing Watsu world that creator Harold Dull envisaged.
All that I have to share and offer - comes out of my own life experience and practice. I've learned that, for me, whatever I do in the world must begin as a self-discovery process. This personal and self-reflective approach is something I hope to convey in all my interactions with others.
So, please feel free to dive into all that you find here. Ask yourself what you feel and think about it, and share as much constructive input and personal insight as you like, either by commenting where that is possible or emailing me directly.
In the spirit of healing,
Sulis (Sara Firman) BSc. MPhil. LMT, Watsu Therapist
[As of 2014, I have over 900 h aquatic training approved by the Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association in addition to further aquatic training in other modalities.]
