I'm English, though I do think of myself as a world citizen. I've lived in the US since 2000 and have permanent residency here.
I was born in July 1959 in London, grew up in Kenya (aged 2 weeks to 6 years), Fiji and Brazil, and have had the fortune to travel widely.
My scientific training (B.Sc. Genetics from Edinburgh; M.Phil. Plant Breeding from Cambridge) led me to spend 15 years working in scientific and medical publishing.
In 1993, I took a 6-month sabbatical at Schumacher College (international center for ecological and spiritual studies in Devon, UK), which marked a turning point in my career.
Following a strong personal interest in health issues, I experienced and trained in a variety of massage and movement disciplines and also explored the expressive arts as a means of mind-body integration.
In addition to being qualified in massage, I have taught yoga, pilates and dance; and trained in NLP (neurolinguistic programming), NVC (non-violent communication), and other self-awareness modalities.
From 1995 to 1997, I lived and worked in Israel, experiencing the creative edge and cultural/political challenges of that country.
On returning to the UK, I was appointed as senior therapist and manager to a beautiful Japanese-style spa in the ancient spa city of Bath.
In 2000, I moved to Laguna Beach, California, to join Ralph Pitt where we shared a passion for Watsu-based aquatic bodywork that led to the creation of WaterJourneys.
From 2002 to 2007, we operated a jointly created retreat centered around water. My roles combined host and therapist with marketing and promotion. The venture (Aquaest Retreat) was the manifestation of a dream.
In aquatic bodywork, I use all my skills to bring to my clients a calming and creative approach to self-awareness and healing. I call myself Sulis when I work in water to remind me to stay open to spirit.
In 2008, my journey together with Ralph ended. I became, once again, a 'water gypsy' offering my aquatic bodywork under the new name of Aquapoetics.
An artist at heart, I continues to write both nonfiction and fiction reflecting my love for nature and my belief in human potential. Water, almost without exception, informs my writings.
Through my websites and blogs I aim to provide inspiration to others who wish to tap into their creative essence and manifest a unique vision, however big or small.
I hope that what I share will be of interest to many people, not only those who share my passion for water, aquatic bodywork, and spa-retreat ethos.
